Bingo Club Winner is 'Gutted' at £5000 Win!

by Emma 5. January 2009 05:03

A woman described herself as ‘gutted’ after she won £5,000 playing bingo at a popular UK Bingo Club - because she thought she had won £250,000.

Louise Payton was playing at the Bilston Mecca Bingo club when she hit what she thought was the regional jackpot. She only learned the following day it was a national jackpot and had been shared between multiple winners at different clubs.
Mrs Payton, 30, who lives at Clare Crescent, Wolverhampton, told the Wolverhampton Express and Star: “The staff told us it was a regional only final and they told me I’d won a lot of money. I was very disappointed to find out I’d won a lot less.”

She said she had already planned a trip to Disneyland with her two young daughters before learning that her win was much lower than she expected.
two young daughters after she called house on the draw on December 21.

But on Monday she received a phone call to say that there were several winners and that she would receive just over £5,000.

Mrs Payton said: “The staff told us it was a regional only final and they told me I’d won a lot of money. I was very disappointed to find out I’d won a lot less.” General manager Natalie Smith, from Mecca Bingo, confirmed Mrs Payton was playing a national game, rather than regional

UK's Luckiest Bingo Winner

by Emma 19. December 2008 02:48

BINGO fanatic Brian Parker is top of the shop after clocking up nearly 90 wins this year.

The lucky granddad-of-three has celebrated 88, or two fat ladies-worth, of victorious nights – and more than £10,000 of winnings in Huddersfield (UK) in 2008.

Brian, 73, said: “I’ve always been lucky. I think I must have been born with a brass spoon in my mouth.”

The former brickyard worker, of Nabcroft Lane, Crosland Moor, has been playing at Mecca in Folly Hall since it opened 10 years ago.

He even has his own lucky seat in the corner of the hall near the ladies’ loos.

Brian said he had always been lucky and he seems to be getting luckier – his streak this year follows 37 wins in 2006 and 42 last year.

His record number of wins in one night was six, totalling about £1,500.

Whitehaven Women Win Big Bingo Prize for Second Time

by Emma 19. December 2008 02:42

Winning streak: The Opera Bingo Club in Whitehaven. Manager Jennifer McGrady said it was ‘very exciting’ to have a big win in the club, but for it to happen twice was incredible The woman called house at Whitehaven’s Opera Bingo Club on Monday night and won the £20,000 national prize, along with a £1,838.98 regional prize and the £34.29 club prize.

It was second time lucky for the woman, who declined to be named, after she shared a £32,000 jackpot with her daughter in April.

The woman, who is a carer from Egremont, said she often won at bingo and her good luck was predicted by a Romany gypsy when she had her fortune read two years ago.

“Everything the fortune teller told me has so far come true,” she said.

“She predicted that I would come into money and that numbers would play a big part.

“I wasn’t sure whether that meant I would be lucky at bingo or on the lottery, but the family has certainly been very lucky at bingo this year.”

Whitehaven Bingo club manager Jennifer McGrady said it was “very exciting” to have a big win in the club, but for it to happen twice was incredible.

The latest win is the third time the National Game prize has been won at Whitehaven since April and the fourth major bingo win in the past couple of weeks in Cumbria.

Whitehaven and Penrith Opera Bingo clubs announced that two players had won £38,000 on the national game last month, and a Workington woman scooped more than £5,500 around two weeks ago.
